When separatist groups spread the accusations of Indonesian atrocities, towards West Papua, Papuan youths continued to score achievements.The Papua Table Tennis contingent won one gold medal at the National Tennis Championship (National Championship) which took place at the Bay Wall Pingpong Center Building 3rd floor at Pluit, Jakarta 7-17 November 2018.
The gold medal was donated by Papuan table tennis athletes on behalf of Sadrak Yoboisembut, Gusti Syaiful and Gusti Aditya who dropped in the senior men’s team number.
In the final of Sadrak and his friends managed to defeat the table tennis athlete from East Kalimantan with a score of 3-2.
The manager of the Papua Table Tennis Team, John Betaubun, told the press on Friday (11/09/2018) in Jakarta that the Papuan contingent was in one pool with the provinces of Banten, Riau and Central Java. And managed to qualify for the quarter final to the final by defeating his opponents with a landslide score.
“The athletes of Papuan athletes show their best in the preliminary round. Three times competed in the preliminary phase against Banten, Riau and Central Java, they won 3-1 and came out as champions of the pool,” said John.
In the quarter final, Fatur coaches back up against their rival from West Java 3-1 and qualified for the semifinals against the South Kalimantan team and won 3-2.
“In the final round the children appeared all out and won 3-2 over East Kalimantan and won gold medals,” said Jhon Betaubun.
Meanwhile, Solfianus Betaubun as the Daily Chairperson of the Provincial Committee of PTMSI Papua who witnessed the match directly, said that Papuan athletes had previously undergone training in Jakarta for around 2 years.
One of his athletes has even been a representative of Papua in the TC (training center) preparation for the 2018 Asian Games held in China earlier this year.
The National Championship starts on November 6, 2018 and is still ongoing.
Today and tomorrow (Friday-Saturday) will compete for the number of Male and Female Senior Individuals .
“We (Pengprov PTMSI Papua) continue to provide support to athletes to practice, fight and achieve maximum results. We also expect support from KONI Papua and the community so that the native Papuan athletes can achieve other achievements in this National Championship and in subsequent matches, including the XX PON performances in 2020, “he said.
The overall results of the senior men’s team match that was over on Thursday night were as follows, Papua as the First Champion (gold medal), East Kalimantan won Second Place (silver medal) and the third winner together (bronze medal) won by South Kalimantan and DKI Jakarta.
